Brussels Public Transport to Hire 700+ Drivers for Network Expansion

The STIB wants to hire this year, in anticipation of the extension of its network and the commissioning of new vehicles, it announces in a press release. A total of 528 bus drivers, 126 tram drivers and 41 metro operators are being sought.
According to the STIB authorities, this massive recruitment plan is the result of the development policy of the Brussels company: tram line 9, inaugurated in September 2018, will be extended to Heysel, just like line 8. The same source also adds that the final destination of this line is not yet known. Other tram lines and at least one metro line are also planned for the coming years by the transport company, not to mention the commissioning of new vehicles.
Half (463) of this recruitment are replacements while the rest (459) are the opening of new positions, we learn. As for the other job opportunities, they concern technical professions, such as electromechanics, electricity and construction. Administrative and supervisory positions are also to be filled. In total, the STIB has more than 300 different professions, the same press release points out.
