Brussels Police Chase Death: Adil Case Hearing Delayed to January

The Adil affair, named after the young man from Anderlecht who died after being hit by a police car in April 2020, has been postponed to January 9, after the hearing on Tuesday at the Brussels council chamber.
Adil, 19, died on April 10, 2020 in a police chase. The young man, who was evading a check, had violently collided with his scooter, at Place Docteur De Meersman in Anderlecht, with a police car that had come as reinforcement. He eventually succumbed to his injuries, recalls La Libre.
While the Brussels public prosecutor’s office had requested a dismissal in November 2020 for "the protagonists and in particular the driver of the police vehicle", Adil’s family, through their lawyer, Me Alexis Deswaef, had requested additional investigation at the hearing of the council chamber on April 20, 2021.
After an indefinite postponement to allow the investigation to be completed, the case was postponed to May 16, 2023. But the case took another turn at this hearing, when a police inspector, a colleague of one of the three police officers charged, declared that the latter had made racist remarks towards Adil after his death. The case was postponed again to September 5. This Tuesday, it was postponed again to January 9.
