Brussels Grand Mosque Suspends Friday Prayers Amid Coronavirus Concerns

After banning all gatherings and events of more than 1,000 people in a closed place in Brussels, and this until March 31, the Grand Mosque of Brussels announced on Wednesday, March 11, the closure of its place of worship for Friday prayers, "from March 13 and until further notice".
According to the management of the Grand Mosque of Brussels (GMB), this decision "contributes to the collective effort to prevent and slow the spread of the epidemic," says Salah Echalloui, director of the GMB and president of the Executive of Muslims of Belgium. He adds that, given the reduced number of worshippers who perform the five daily prayers there, the GMB will continue to welcome them, but "strongly recommends that they do so privately for the time being".
In a statement, the management thanks the faithful in advance "for their understanding and their contribution to safeguarding their health and that of their fellow citizens".
