Brussels Court Releases Convicted Cop Killer After 13 Years in Prison

The Brussels Sentence Enforcement Court has granted full freedom to Hassan Iasir, one of the three men convicted in 2011 of home-jacking with aggravating circumstances of murder of the young policewoman, Kitty Van Nieuwenhuysen.
Hassan Iasir has completely regained his freedom, reports RTL.be. The Assize Court of Brussels had sentenced the Moroccan and his accomplices Noureddine Cheikhni and Galip Kurum to 30 years in prison on April 12, 2011. The three defendants had coldly shot the 23-year-old policewoman while she was on patrol with one of her colleagues. She died on the spot. As for her colleague, she survived. In May, Hassan had obtained electronic surveillance and then benefited from conditional release.
At the time, Theo Francken, Secretary of State for Migration, had ordered the expulsion of Hassan, who was serving a 30-year prison sentence in Belgium, to Morocco. But the Court of Cassation had annulled this expulsion measure, arguing that the defendant was born in Belgium.
A new life is beginning for the former inmate, who is now completely free to move around.
