Brother of Montpellier Hit-and-Run Victim Speaks Out Amid Community Tensions

A week after Aymen’s death, hit by a reckless driver in the Mosson district of Montpellier, his elder brother Saïd broke his silence to talk about the tragedy his family has been going through since Wednesday, December 13.
"I don’t show it, but I’m broken inside. He was my little brother, the favorite. Have you seen the world that is showing its support? Even people we’ve never seen," Saïd confides. The 20-year-old young man did not expect to lose his brother so soon, and especially not under these tragic circumstances, reports Midi Libre.
Aymen’s death has led to strong tensions between Arabs (the victim’s community) and Gypsies in Montpellier. Saïd deeply regrets this situation that is disrupting an old coexistence. "For me, Gypsies and Arabs are the same. There may be small disputes but nothing serious, it’s the neighborhood." Despite the pain, Aymen’s brother pleads for a definitive return to calm. "We want peace. Let justice do its job and let the person be punished by law. That’s what will relieve us."
The death of Aymen is difficult enough for some to use it for other purposes, denounced Saïd. "Many young people are being stirred up wanting to create a war for nothing. We all need to be wary of the excesses of social networks, including those that spread all kinds of slander and lies about our communities," he warned.
The 14-year-old teenager will be buried this Tuesday. His elder brother specifies that violence will only add to the pain of having lost Aymen.
