Brazil Leads Global Halal Food Exports, Tapping into Growing Muslim Market

Brazil is the world’s largest exporter of halal foods. This is indicated in a report on the state of the global Islamic economy by the international firm Dinar Standard.
With $16.2 billion in halal products exported, Brazil is the world’s largest exporter of halal foods, 12% more than India’s (2nd) exports, the report states. "Today, 1.9 billion consumers worldwide are Muslim. And estimates for 2060 indicate that one in three people will be Muslim. So there is a huge potential to explore," explained Elaine Franco de Carvalho, coordinator of Fambras Halal, one of the main halal certifiers in Brazil, to Agencia Brasil.
"Moreover, Muslim consumers are very loyal. Once they identify a certified brand that provides a quality product, they keep it," she added. The report published by the Brazilian state agency indicates that the halal market is growing in the Middle East, North Africa, and Brazil. The latter has Indonesia as its largest importer of its halal products.
According to Franco de Carvalho, almost all European countries and the United States are importers of halal food, as they have Muslims living in their territories. The Brazilian state agency also states that about 450 Brazilian companies are halal certified by Fambras halal.
