Bordeaux Airport Wildfires Disrupt Morocco Flights

Thousands of residents and vacationers have been evacuated from the Arcachon basin and towns near Bordeaux threatened by the flames. Some of them spent the night in a reception center set up at the exhibition park.

According to AFP, significant traffic jams accompanied the evacuations, while smoke remained noticeable in the Bordeaux metropolitan area on Saturday, July 25. Masks were distributed and medical facilities were set up for those being accommodated.

Three departures to Morocco displayed

The departure board at Bordeaux-Mérignac showed an EasyJet flight to Essaouira at 7:15 p.m., the Royal Air Maroc flight AT799 to Casablanca at 8:05 p.m. and another EasyJet to Marrakech at 8:15 p.m.

No cancellations were indicated on this display. However, the rapid evolution of the fires, smoke and traffic difficulties could complicate access to the airport or lead to operational adjustments. Travelers must consult directly with their airline and Bordeaux-Mérignac information before departure.

Another fire that occurred on Tuesday, July 21 in a pine forest near an airport parking lot claimed the lives of two firefighters, trapped by the flames. This fire was brought under control the same day and should not be confused with the fires causing current evacuations.
