Bikers Protest, Demand Charges Against Police in Fatal Brussels Chase

On Tuesday, May 9, 2017, the lives of two young people, Sabrina and Ouassim, changed forever around 10 p.m. in the tunnels of Avenue Louise in Brussels. A police chase that ended in tragedy. Grieving families, residents who want to understand and who demand just punishment for the police officers responsible for the deaths of these two young people.
Ouassim was only 24 years old and Sabrina was 20 years old. In a restitution of the facts, the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office indicated that a patrol of the canine brigade of the Brussels-Capital-Ixelles local police, which was driving on the right lane of Avenue Louise, heard via the police radio that a chase was underway on Avenue Louise. The canine brigade vehicle then slowed down to slow down traffic, so that the chase on the left lane could continue without endangering other users. Almost instantly, the motorcycle collided with the rear left of the canine brigade vehicle. Following the impact, the police vehicle was positioned across the road.
But for the relatives and families of the two young victims, the police officers are entirely responsible for what happened. They caused the accident and also failed to provide assistance to Sabrina, who was still breathing. In June, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office requested a dismissal for the police officers, while the order of the council chamber will be handed down on August 13. The Truth & Justice Rally for Sabrina and Ouassim does not see things this way. For its members, the police officers must be convicted, reports bx1.
It is therefore in a wave of solidarity and justice that a gathering of several dozen bikers took place on Sunday afternoon, in order to ask the court to refer the case back to the Public Prosecutor for the indictment of the police officers. Many people with flowers and white balloons and placards reading "Justice for Sabrina and Ouassim".
For some participants, one should not die in a police chase, especially not in the prime of life. The bikers say they have agreed to participate in the rally in order to pay tribute to the two young people and also to show that being a biker does not mean being a delinquent who must be fought. For 4 years, the families have been struggling to heal their wounds and hope that justice will be done for the two young people.
