Belgium Turns to Morocco to Fill Critical IT Job Vacancies

Facing a severe labor shortage, the Flemish employment and training agency has decided to turn to Morocco to hire IT workers.
According to the newspaper Metro, thousands of jobs in the sector remain unfilled. "The shortage of workers with IT skills in the labor market is gigantic," explains Bert Mons, director of Voka for West Flanders, to the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.
To this end, the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC - Morocco) will select Moroccan students who match the desired profile before concluding a contract. Concretely, they will be trained in Morocco for a few months before being offered one-year contracts and, if successful, permanent contracts.
Belgium is not the only country interested in Moroccan labor. A Quebec company has gone to Casablanca to recruit several workers to work in a local factory. After selecting 50 candidates, six will join the company by next summer.
