Belgium Tightens Travel Restrictions for Unvaccinated Visitors from Morocco and Other Red-Zone Countries

Faced with the rise in hospitalizations in Brussels, Belgium has decided to impose new restrictions on travelers from Morocco and other countries on its red list.
After a long period of easing, the Belgian authorities updated the travel conditions on September 10. "Travelers from red zone countries, including Morocco, who wish to travel to the Brussels territory will have to, as of September 17, if they are not vaccinated or in possession of a recovery certificate, comply with a mandatory 10-day quarantine," says a press release from the Common Community Commission in Brussels (COCOM).
However, the quarantine can be shortened if the person presents a negative PCR test on the 7th day, a mandatory test at the national level on the 1st and 7th day of arrival in Belgium, the same source specifies. Vaccinated people from Morocco are not affected by this measure.
"More than a third of new cases are recorded upon return from trips," warned Inge Neven, head of the Covid-19 device at the Common Community Commission (COCOM), noting that 10% of the 6,000 people who returned from Morocco in the last week of August were infected.
