Belgium’s Lois Openda Reveals Morocco Approached Him Before World Cup Selection

The Lens striker, Lois Openda, could have played for Morocco. In an interview, the player said he had been in contact with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
Speaking on Wednesday about his selection with the Red Devils for the World Cup, the 22-year-old player said he had been approached by the Moroccan football authorities. Openda holds dual Belgian-Moroccan nationality and has always played within the Belgian youth teams, recalls Belga.
"I have always wanted to play for Belgium, as I have always done in the youth teams," he said, adding that "there were contacts with Morocco, but my choice was made a long time ago."
Within the Red Devils, the Lens striker could take advantage of Romelo Lukaku’s poor form to express his talent, even if Mitchy Batshuayi is the usual backup for the Inter striker. "I know that Michy is just behind Romelu in the hierarchy, but you always have to be ready. I am part of a group of 26 players and that is already a great honor. Rom and Michy are very complete strikers. As for me, I can mainly bring speed to bother the defenders. I am mainly a No. 9 but I can also play on the left or right," he stressed.
