Belgium Lawmaker Calls for Ethnic Census Amid Rising Racism Concerns

The President of the Brussels Parliament, Rachid Madrane, stated that Belgium is currently in a climate of resurgence of racism, especially with regard to the debate on decolonization.
In the opinion of the socialist, in an interview with the newspaper la Dernière heure, it is urgent to resolve these problems of racism given that his wish would be to see a city where 184 different nationalities will build a common future for future generations without worrying about their origin. Today, ethnic statistics make it possible to objectify the situation, especially since the work must be reserved for academic and university circles on the basis of self-identification.
On the issue of wearing the veil in the administration, in schools and elsewhere, Rachid Madrane said he had no problem with the motion voted in Molenbeek. Thus, each power is free to do what suits it as long as the Imperium is respected as well as its inscription in the three fundamental values of Belgium. Meanwhile, the PS must clarify its position as the MR has done.
