Belgium Honors Pioneering Moroccan Immigrants on Morocco’s Independence Day

The first generation of Moroccan immigrants in Belgium was honored on Saturday in Brussels, with a ceremony organized to celebrate the 64th anniversary of Morocco’s independence.
Chaired by Mohamed Ameur, Moroccan Ambassador to Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the ceremony brought together several hundred Moroccans and various personalities from all over Belgium. It was also an opportunity to pay tribute to the efforts made to promote living together within Belgian society.
The distinguished personalities, according to the MAP, received from the ambassador awards of recognition and gratitude for their sense of responsibility, their unwavering attachment to the sacred values of Morocco and for the efforts made to make the Moroccan diaspora a model of successful integration, coexistence and respect for others.
Mohamed Ameur took the opportunity to express the indignation of all Moroccans in Belgium in the face of the desecration of the national flag during a demonstration last month in Paris. "The Moroccan community is firmly determined to defend to the end the sacred values and supreme interests of the Kingdom," the ambassador said, adding that the national flag represents a strong symbol of national unity and identity and that Moroccans wherever they are would never accept that their symbols or sacred institutions be the subject of such sacrilege.
