Belgium Honors Moroccan Miners’ Contributions to Economic Growth and Cultural Ties

Belgium has paid tribute to Moroccan miners for the great sacrifices they made in the development of the coal industry and the economic boom of the mining regions.
During this ceremony organized on Saturday at the Islamic and Cultural Center of the Belgian city, the two parties once again saluted the exemplary journey of the elder Moroccan miners and the important role they played in the economic development of the various regions of Belgium and in the intercultural rapprochement between the Moroccan and Belgian peoples, reports the MAP.
For the Consul General of Morocco in Liège, Abdelkader Abidine, the history of the immigration of Moroccan miners to Belgian territory is above all a human story. It is also the story of women and children, simply the epic of Moroccan families that have formed over the years throughout Belgium.
He added that this ceremony is an opportunity to learn about the history of Moroccan immigration in Belgium and to understand its different components, in order to provide the younger generations with the essential tools for understanding our contemporary society.
To this end, the Consul stressed the need to promote issues of memory, testimony and transmission, as this contributes to strengthening intercultural dialogue and helps to preserve sterile prejudices, behaviors of rejection and social exclusion.
