Belgium to Honor Moroccan WWII Soldiers in 80th Anniversary Commemoration

Belgium will pay tribute to the Moroccan soldiers who fell on the battlefield during World War II. This was announced on Thursday, January 9, 2020 in Rabat by the General Delegate of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in Morocco, Motonobu Kasajima.
Kasajima, who discussed this issue during talks with the President of the House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, specified that this tribute ceremony will take place as part of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of World War II.
A statement from the House of Representatives also mentions "the desire of the President of the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation to consolidate cooperation between the two legislative institutions". In 2018, the two parties had already signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at "strengthening dialogue, consultation and the exchange of experiences and expertise", the same source said.
For Kasajima, Moroccan-Belgian relations are important and also take into account the field of education. "The presence of Belgian schools in the Kingdom strengthens the educational and scientific cooperation programs that are constantly evolving," he recalled.
The President of the House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, for his part, stressed that the death of Moroccan soldiers on Belgian territory, to defend freedom and face Nazism, "reflects the common values between the Moroccan and Belgian peoples".
