Saturday 29 August 2020, by
As of September 1st, mosques in Belgium will be able to welcome up to 200 worshippers. This decision by the National Security Council is part of the easing of measures enacted by the government to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the Office of the Executive of Muslims of Belgium, chaired by Mehmet Ütün, all other precautionary measures put in place for the reopening of places of worship to the public, as set out in the EMB protocol, remain in effect.
This includes wearing a mask in the mosque and during prayer, respecting the 1.5 m distance throughout the presence in the premises, being in a state of ablution to enter the mosque, disinfecting hands at the entrance of the mosque, the obligation to have a personal and individual prayer mat.
In addition, there is the obligation to leave the mosque immediately after the end of the prayer, the prohibition of greeting each other by shaking hands or kissing, the prohibition of gathering inside and outside the mosque, and the prohibition of access to the mosque for the elderly, the sick, the frail or those with chronic illness.
