Belgium Eases COVID-19 Restrictions for Mosques, Allowing Limited Worship

The restrictive measures that were imposed on places of worship, in order to fight against the spread of the coronavirus in Belgium, have been slightly relaxed. The decision was made last Friday by the government.
The new measures came into effect this Sunday, November 13, and allow mosques to accommodate a maximum of 15 people in the same place, provided that each of them occupies 10 m². Mosques are also required to comply with the health precaution measures contained in the protocol of the Executive of Muslims of Belgium (EMB).
According to this protocol, the relaxed measures concern the daily prayers and religious ceremonies such as weddings and funerals. Friday prayers, conferences and other collective activities remain suspended.
The EMB is counting on the understanding of imams and mosque officials, and asks them to help ensure strict compliance with health decisions for the well-being and protection of all. The same degree of responsibility and understanding is expected from the Muslim community for the preservation of public health.
