Belgium Bans Non-Essential Travel, Brussels Airport Sees Sharp Decline in Passengers

As of this Wednesday until March 1st, non-essential travel to and from Belgium is no longer allowed. An unflattering decision for Brussels airport as well as for the Moroccan community, very important in this country.
This week at Brussels Airport, the departure hall was almost deserted. Currently, there are about fifty flights with 2,000 passengers, compared to 6,000 to 8,000 passengers a few days earlier, while the Brussels airport usually had some 55,000 to 60,000 passengers per day, or 600 flights, reports Bx1be, specifying that this is a consequence of the health crisis on the activities of this airport as well as on the companies working there.
Currently (for a while yet), we are content with temporary unemployment. Brussels Airport estimates that a return to normal could be hoped for in 2024 or even 2025, although other airlines expect a return of travelers for this summer. However, for the Easter holidays, there is doubt in people’s minds.
In addition to this situation, there are police checks. Thus, airlines are required to check passengers’ sworn declarations during check-in. The federal police can however check them at the border crossing. The same goes for the return, where the police check the passenger locator forms, the PLFs. So if you have to go to Morocco, make sure you have a very good reason.
