Ajax Prodigy Bounida Signals Morocco Switch, Shocks Belgium
Rayane Bounida, a midfielder for Ajax Amsterdam, has expressed his intention to choose Morocco as his sporting nationality.
Between Morocco and Belgium, Rayane Bounida has not yet made a decision. But there are signs that the young Belgian-Moroccan talent is about to choose Morocco as his sporting nationality. On Instagram, he congratulated the Moroccan under-20 national team on their qualification for the round of 16 of the World Cup being held in Chile, before deleting all his photos with the Belgian national team. The Atlas Cubs had just defeated Brazil 2-1.
He added a Moroccan flag and a finger pointed to the sky. Moroccan supporters enthusiastically welcomed this gesture. They say they are happy to see him wear the Moroccan jersey, as they consider him an asset for the national team in the years to come. On the other hand, Belgian supporters are not happy with him. This post has sparked controversy on social media.
By making this gesture, Rayane proves that he is close to defending the colors of the Moroccan flag over the Belgian flag. He has already attended training camps with the youth teams. Belgium would thus lose a player with remarkable technical abilities in midfield, combining precise passes, ball control, and a wide vision of the game. He has been captain in several matches with the U19 black-yellow-red team.
