Belgian Youth Embark on Month-Long Bike Journey from Brussels to Morocco

In Belgium, 12 young people have started a journey from Brussels to Morocco by bike. A trip prepared for two years, which will last a month.
Aged 16 to 22, these young people are from the municipality of Molenbeek. For a month, they will pedal to Morocco, accompanied by 3 supervisors, reports Belga, specifying that this pilot project aims to promote bicycle mobility but also to facilitate exchanges between young people in France and Morocco.
The idea germinated during the first lockdown, with the limitation of journeys, particularly on public transport, the media recalls, stressing that these young people have promoted cycling. This led them to organize outings to destinations such as Huizingen, Ostend or even Amsterdam.
According to the travel plan, these young travelers will have to cycle 1,300 km to reach Sète, in the south of France, before taking the boat for a 40-hour crossing. This Friday, the first day of the trip, the young people from Molenbeek covered 115 km before the first stop of the journey.
