Belgian Sisters Linked to ISIS Face Retrial After Syria Return

The Antwerp Criminal Court will look into the case of the two sisters repatriated from Turkey to Belgium at the end of November. Their lawyer announced it on Tuesday.
They were convicted by default, while they were in Syria, to five years in prison for their participation in the activities of a terrorist group. Once back in Belgium, they filed an opposition to their conviction, reports 7sur7.
Fatima and Rahma B. escaped from a camp held by the Kurds in northern Syria. But in their flight, they were arrested in Turkey and extradited to Belgium where they were immediately incarcerated, one in Antwerp and the other in Bruges. Fatima B. was convicted in 2015, while her sister was recently convicted in 2019.
If their opposition to the first judgment is declared admissible, the two sisters will be tried again, the same source reports.
