Belgian MP Sihame El Kaouakibi Speaks Out Against Racism and Sexism, Launches #WeesLuider Campaign

Saturday 7 March 2020, by Bladi.net

Tired of being the victim of racist and sexist reactions, an elected official has decided to break the silence to make herself heard. In a video posted on Twitter, the 34-year-old Flemish MP of Moroccan origin, Sihame El Kaouakibi (Open Vld), cried out her frustration with the sexist and racist comments she often receives.

Sihame El Kaouakibi, often cited as a spokesperson for the younger generation, is one of the ten most influential Belgian immigrants. Proud of her Moroccan origins, she wanted, especially through this action, to sound the mobilization of all women victims of racism and sexism by asking them to make themselves heard more. Because "enough is enough", she insists. To make herself better heard, she launched the hashtag #WeesLuider, meaning "Be louder".

VRT NWS reports an outburst of the elected official in which she declared: "I have been facing this for 10 years and it is only getting worse. Almost 80% of the reactions I receive on social networks are sexist or racist in nature. Most are hateful reactions that I do not relay; but here, I could no longer remain silent." She was also very recently the target of insults, after posting a video in which she listed her "10 ideas for a better future".

The insults that Sihame El Kaoukabiki receives daily on social networks are numerous. She was outraged by the hatred she is a victim of and would like her outburst to resonate as far as possible, around the world. That is why she calls on everyone to break the silence and to stand together more to put an end to these actions, especially on the eve of March 8.
