Belgian Prosecutor Seeks 5-Year Sentence for Sharia4Belgium Founder’s Widow in Syria Terror Case

In the Brussels Criminal Court, a sentence of five years in prison was requested against Faiza H., the widow of Feisal Yamoun, one of the co-founders of the Salafist group Sharia4Belgium.
The defendant went to Syria in 2013 where she had joined her husband, after the birth of their third child, reports La Dernière Heure. She had joined the ranks of the Mujahideen Consultative Council, affiliated with Al-Qaeda. In contact with Sharia4Belgium, she had withdrawn a large sum of money before her departure. On site, she would not have taken care of just the housework and the children, the federal prosecutor’s office said.
At Faiza H.’s request, other Belgians would have joined her. Investigators heard her, in a telephone conversation, explain how to reach Syria to Stéphanie Djato, a young woman arrested in Jette in 2012 for refusing to remove her niqab. At the time, Sharia4Belgium had instrumentalized this incident, which had triggered a wave of protest demonstrations.
After the death of her husband, Faiza H. remarries with Ibrahim Z., a member of Jabhat al-Nosra - still linked to Al-Qaeda at the time. They had a child together. A report from the State Security indicates that the couple would be in northwestern Syria.
