Belgian Prison Escapee Taunts Authorities with Postcard from Thailand

Wednesday 22 January 2020, by Ginette

After his spectacular escape from the Turnhout prison, Oualid Sekkaki mocks the prison administration by sending a postcard from Thailand. On December 19, it was in the company of four other inmates that Oualid Sekkaki escaped by climbing a six-meter-high wall during the evening walk.

Oualid Sekkaki, 26, is already following in the footsteps of his older brother, Ashraf Sekkaki, a high-level criminal nicknamed "the king of escape", after escaping from the Bruges prison by helicopter in 2009. The young Oualid Sekkaki had escaped on his 26th birthday, by climbing the prison walls with Abderrahim Baghat, 38, and three other accomplices, who were recaptured a few hours later.

While the four other escapees were able to be arrested, this is not the case for Sekkaki who disappeared into the wild. It is through a postcard that he is making himself heard, locating his position in Asia. The spokeswoman for the prison administration, Kathleen Van De Vijver, assured that the local management had received a letter from Sekkaki as the sender, reports 7sur7.

According to the site, the letter was addressed to the three directors of the establishment. The envelope contained his prisoner ID badge and a postcard bearing the mention "Greetings from Thailand".
