Belgian Political Leader Accused of Promoting Islamophobia and Supporting Far-Right Figure

During the debates on a text from the Mouvement réformateur (MR) aimed at maintaining an intergenerational aid/platform in the Brussels Parliament on Friday, the Brussels deputy Ahmed Mouhssin (Ecolo) attacked the president of the MR, Georges-Louis Bouchez, accusing him of "questioning Islamophobia", "supporting (Eric) Zemmour", and "standing in solidarity with a racist and an anti-Semite."
"With his scandalous speech that questions Islamophobia and supports (Eric) Zemmour, he polarizes and undermines solidarity," Ahmed Mouhssin said. Also, he accused the president of the MR of "insulting the Brussels people" for years and of "standing in solidarity with a racist and an anti-Semite". This provoked a reaction from Georges-Louis Bouchez, reports 7 sur 7. "I demand apologies from Ecolo for these unacceptable remarks. The MR has no lesson to learn, certainly not from a deputy who uses lies and division as a method of conviction. The failure of the Brussels government is the fruit of these communitarian methods," the president of the MR, in opposition in the Brussels Region, reacted on Twitter.
For his part, the president of the Brussels MR, David Leisterh, says he cannot accept the "scandalous insinuations" made in the Brussels Parliament. "The MR carries high the values of democracy and our DNA is rooted in human rights. To thus sully our movement is unworthy of parliamentary debate. STOP," he added. "When we intervene on the turf of other parties, it bothers them to the point that they resort to insults... Too bad that our text with David Leisterh aimed at maintaining an intergenerational aid/platform is the victim of a diversion. Sad for the Brussels people," deplored the Brussels French-speaking deputy, Aurélie Czekalski, a member of the MR.
