Belgian Muslims to Celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Thursday, Marking End of Ramadan

The Executive of Muslims of Belgium (EMB) announced on Tuesday that the feast marking the end of Ramadan is scheduled for Thursday, June 13, 2021. It expresses its best wishes for prosperity to citizens of Muslim faith and all other beliefs and reminds them of the health and security measures issued by the government to curb the spread of the coronavirus in Belgium.
"Following the meeting of the Council of Theologians today by videoconference, the Executive of Muslims of Belgium (EMB) is pleased to announce to the Muslims of Belgium that the first day of the month of Shawwal 1442 corresponds to Thursday, May 13, 2021, the day of ’Eid Al Fitr’, marking the end of the month of Ramadan for the Muslim community in our country," the organization said in a statement, stressing that the festival will take place in the same way as it did the previous year.
The EMB reminded all Muslims of certain rules put in place to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. The government allows two close contacts in addition to household members indoors; ten contacts outdoors except between midnight and 5am, where it will be a bubble of 3 people (the curfew was lifted on May 8).
The Muslim organization also calls to "pay particular attention to the elderly, the sick or the fragile" and to also be "in solidarity with all those who will celebrate Eid without being able to be surrounded by those who are dear to them".
