Belgian Muslims Adapt Ramadan Practices Amid Curfews and Time Change

With the switch to daylight saving time on Sunday, March 28, 2021, the arrival of the month of Ramadan, and the curfew in force in the Brussels-Capital Region and the Walloon and Flemish Regions extended until April 25, 2021, the Executive of Muslims of Belgium (EMB), through a press release, urges all mosque leaders and Muslim citizens to take the following measures from this Sunday.
In the Brussels-Capital Region, the "Maghreb" and "Isha" prayers will have to be combined at the "Maghreb" time in the mosques, in order to allow everyone to be home before the curfew.
The "Fajr" prayer will be performed at home, as will the "Tarawih" prayers. In the Walloon and Flemish Regions, the "Fajr" prayer will be performed at home. But the "Tarawih" prayer will be held at the mosque, ensuring that everyone returns before the curfew.
For the record, the maximum number of people authorized at the same time in the mosque is 15 (the minister of worship and children under twelve years of age not included). Each believer must occupy a space of 10 m² throughout his presence in the mosque and even during the performance of the prayer.
The EMB affirms that it continues the dialogue with the representatives of the other faiths and the Minister of Justice in charge of faiths to allow a relaxation of the health measures applicable to faiths.
