Belgian Muslim Council Denies Allegations of Fund Misuse and Power Abuse

The Executive of Muslims of Belgium (EMB), says it is "dismayed" in the face of accusations of misappropriation targeting it, firmly contesting "all the allegations reported in the press".
In a press release, Mehmet Üstün, president of the EMB Office, reacted to the accusations made against him by three of its members. "It is with dismay that we take note of the various press articles reporting alleged abuses of power and misappropriation of funds within the Executive of Muslims of Belgium," the statement reads.
The EMB assures that it has always carried out its missions in transparency in accordance with the laws in force in collaboration with the Belgian authorities and in compliance with the principle of separation of Church and State.
To recall, three elected members of the EMB declared on Wednesday that they are requesting the Brussels court to appoint an administrator for the EMB. They believe that members of the EMB Office have taken control of the EMB, without referring to the elected members. A hearing is scheduled for October 5.
