Belgian-Moroccan Teen Sarah Chaari Clinches World Taekwondo Title in -62 kg Category

At 17 years old, the Belgian-Moroccan Sarah Chaari, world number 7, was crowned world taekwondo champion on Tuesday, in Guadalajara (Mexico), in the -62 kg final against the Greek Sarvanaki, 18, world number 18.
After five fights in which she defeated the American Dillon Faith in the round of 16, the German Anna-lena Froemming in the quarterfinals, the Chinese Lijun Zhou in the quarterfinals, the British Aaliyah Powell in the semi-finals, and the Greek Theopoula Sarvanaki in the final, Sarah Chaari seized the world title, thus offering Belgium its second gold medal in a World Championship and the first in the women’s category.
Before this crowning, Sarah Chaari won the Junior European Championship title in November 2021, a bronze medal at the Senior European Championship in May 2022, and the Junior World Championship title in August 2022. With this title, the 17-year-old has become the first athlete in the world to win the world title in both the junior and senior categories the same year.
