Belgian Man Released After Kidnapping in Mistaken Drug Trafficking Case

Kidnapped on February 22 at a service station along the E19 motorway towards Antwerp, then held hostage, Mohamed Azzaoui, 49 years old and originally from Wilrijk, was released by his kidnappers last weekend. He was mistaken for a drug trafficker.
Mohamed Azzaoui was kidnapped aboard a black Volkswagen Golf on February 22 in the parking lot of the E19 motorway. His kidnappers, who would be of Serbian origin, held him responsible for the disappearance of 1.2 tons of cocaine, reports Het Laatste Nieuws.
Mo Azzaoui would have been mistreated, judging by certain images circulated on social networks after his kidnapping, showing him naked and tied to a chair. The federal police of Antwerp opened an investigation to try to find him. After about ten days without results, the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office launched an appeal for witnesses. Following this notice, the kidnappers published a second video in which they indicated that a certain "King", Naïs A., and his accomplice "Smiley", were responsible for the disappearance of the ton of cocaine.
Realizing they had confused Mo Azzaoui with this drug criminal, the kidnappers of Mo Azzaoui finally released him, according to sources close to him, specifying that the victim was found blindfolded, in the night from Sunday to Monday, near the home of his family.
