Belgian Man Arrested at Spanish Border for Illegal Firearms and Currency Smuggling

A Belgian national was brought before the Court of Appeal on Sunday, July 7, 2019, for possession of firearms, ammunition and for trafficking a sum of money in foreign currency abroad.
The defendant, aged 59, arrested on July 4, 2019, was preparing to join Spain on board a vehicle registered abroad via the Bab Sebta crossing point, reports the MAP, citing a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
A firearm containing five cartridges, as well as a sum of 97,540 euros and 160 Tunisian dinars, not declared to the Foreign Exchange Office, were found in his vehicle and confiscated, according to the same source.
For the purposes of the investigation, the defendant was taken into custody before being brought before the courts on Sunday, July 7, it is further specified.
