Belgian Lawmaker Warns of ’Radical Political Claim’ Behind Veil Wearing
Belgian MP George Dallemagne reacted to the wearing of the veil in public administrations. The elected official states that "through the veil, there is also a political, radical claim".
"Ultimately, that’s what worries us more, that if the veil were only the claim of an affirmation or a religion, it would not pose a problem. In fact, through the veil, there is also a political, radical claim, which does not want our model of society, does not want our values, and fights them," he said on "Grand Oral" RTBF/Le Soir. In the eyes of the deputy, the veil is thus a proof of radicality.
He is surprised by the lack of debate on the essential issues. "We are not tackling the essential issues, such as equality between women and men, for example," he said. "I hear women who are forced. I hear forced marriages. I hear debates that, moreover, never take place in the public space."
A member of the Humanist Democratic Centre, the former Belgian Christian-social party, he also mentions the Islamic invasion in Belgium. "I notably hear that Salafism and the Muslim Brotherhood are coordinating here on the Brussels square to have additional recruits. According to our intelligence services, we are the only city in the world where they are doing this," he said.
