Belgian Judoka Sami Chouchi Claims Bronze at Tashkent Grand Prix

Brussels-based Sami Chouchi stepped into the arena where he faced Russian Abas Azizov in a judo match on Saturday in Uzbekistan, at the Judo Grand Prix in Tashkent. In the end, the world’s 18th-ranked judoka in his category won the bronze medal in the -81 kg category.
Another medal for the judoka, Sami Chouchi. He won by ippon in golden score against Russian Abas Azizov (IJF 116) in the bronze medal match, reports 7 sur 7.
The judoka had won his first two fights against Kyrgyz Vladimir Zoloev (IJF 32) and Belarusian Yusup Bekmurzaev (IJF 88). But, following his defeat against Uzbek Muso Sobirov (IJF 139), Sami Chouchi was sent to the repechage. At this stage, the 2018 European Vice-Champion proved himself worthy: he eliminated Kazakh Didar Khamza (IJF 19) by ippon, thus winning the bronze medal in the -81 kg category.
26-year-old Sami Chouchi is of Moroccan origin through his mother, his father being of Tunisian nationality.
