Belgian Government Funding of Anti-Islamophobia Group Sparks Controversy

Flemish nationalist MP Theo Francken (N-VA) spoke out about the 20,000 euros the federal government is granting as subsidies to the Collective Against Islamophobia in Belgium. He says he is "shocked" by this kind of arrangement and is calling for its temporary suspension and a more thorough investigation by the State Security Service.
Will the CCIB suffer the same fate as the Collective Against Islamophobia in France (CCIF), which was dissolved following the assassination of teacher Samuel Paty? In any case, many Belgian observers find that there are many similarities between the two organizations. According to MP Theo Francken, "it is incomprehensible that there is no consultation with French colleagues."
For its part, the CCIB declares itself independent and assures that it has no connection with the CCIF. The nationalist deputy refuses to believe it. "The CCIB has exactly the same agenda as the CCIF and applies the same tactics," the deputy affirms in his post. He is surprised that the federal government has continued to subsidize such an organization. He accuses the Ecologists of being in collusion with the CCIB, and points the finger at Senator Farida Tahar, former candidate for the city of Brussels and the Chamber Mustapha Chairi, and Hajib El Hajjaji, municipal councilor in Verviers, reports lalibre.be
The deputy’s accusations were quickly brushed aside by the office of the State Secretary for Equal Opportunities and Diversity, Sarah Schlitz (Ecolo). "Beyond the misleading insinuations, this suspicion of collusion is absurd. This file was entirely prepared by the previous government under the supervision of Minister Nathalie Muylle," said spokeswoman Jessika Soors, the same source specifies.
