Belgian Court Upholds Prison Sentences for ISIS Fighters’ Widows

Convicted at first instance to five years in prison and a fine of 8,000 euros last year, Tatiana Wielandt and Bouchra Aboullal, two widows of jihadists, saw their sentence confirmed on appeal, on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, by the Antwerp Criminal Court.
The two women were convicted at first instance for their participation in the activities of a terrorist group as wives of Syrian fighters.
According to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, they had been detained since the spring of 2017 in a Kurdish camp in Syria before fleeing, following the Turkish offensive on Syrian territory, a few weeks ago. The same source reports that these two women could soon join Turkey.
According to the latest news, the Court of Appeal ordered their arrest.
