Belgian Activist Receives Graphic Death Threats, Files Complaint

The director of the Observatory of Fundamentalisms, Fadila Maaroufi, has received new death threats, but these seem much more frightening than the previous ones. Even though the Belgian-Moroccan woman frequently faces such attacks, the violence conveyed by the video she received has prompted her to file a complaint.
"A few seconds of viewing seemed endless to me, so unbearable was the horror conveyed by the images." This is how Fadila Maaroufi, director of the Observatory of Fundamentalisms in Brussels, describes the new threats she has been receiving since the beginning of the month, reports La Dernière Heure.
"Probably Daesh soldiers. I immediately sent the links to my lawyer for follow-up. This is not the first death threat I have received, but this one has something special about it. The author has chosen his words carefully, it is very well written and the video comes from a website or search engine that is probably difficult to find, unless you have unhealthy intentions," she posted on Facebook.
The message accompanying the video wished her "a slow and painful death," explains Fadila Maaroufi to the newspaper La Capitale. She filed a complaint with the police and hopes that the authorities will not let this one get lost in the drawers, as was the case with a previous one she filed under the same conditions.
Among other activities, Fadila Maaroufi has been organizing seminars and conferences on the theme of radicalization since 2016. She intends to fight what she calls "political Islam." And it is her positions that earn her today criticism and death threats.
