BBC Journalist Alleges GDPR Breach at Moroccan Airport After Nurse Accesses Personal Data

A BBC journalist who was about to return to the United Kingdom by air has denounced the non-compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Morocco and the ambiguous message from a nurse.
Eliott Darby recounts the facts on social media. On Twitter, Eliott Darby shared screenshots showing a conversation he had on WhatsApp with Aya, who would be a nurse at the airport where he had taken the Covid-19 test. The young Moroccan woman explained to him that she had retrieved his number from his medical file because she had fallen in love with him.
The journalist’s post has prompted comments from Internet users, some to denounce the sharing of this private conversation, others to denounce similar practices by various players in the tourism industry. "This is totally normal behavior in Morocco!", writes Nathalie, who says she lived in the kingdom for three years. She supports her words. "The taxi driver who took me to the airport when I was leaving Morocco gave my phone number to all the men in his family. I had to change my number," she recounted.
"In other countries, regulations on data protection are just a piece of paper deposited somewhere. No one educates citizens because no one cares," writes another Internet user.
