Automobile in the lead, phosphates in decline: the mixed results of Moroccan exports

The automotive industry is confirming its role as an economic driver in Morocco. At the end of February 2026, the sector generated more than 26 billion dirhams in revenue, showing a growth of 10.3% compared to the same period in 2025. According to the Office des Changes, this performance is mainly based on electrical wiring (+14.8%) and the automotive manufacturing segment (+14.5%).

The aeronautics sector is following this trend with a 16.5% increase, exceeding 5.2 billion dirhams in export turnover. Despite a slight decline in wiring systems, assembly activity has soared by 27.2%. Overall, the Kingdom’s total exports are up 2% to reach a total of 74.8 billion dirhams.

However, several historical pillars are faltering at the beginning of the year. Phosphate and derivative exports are down 16.5%, while textiles and leather are down 9.2%. Agriculture and agri-food also recorded a 3.7% decline, highlighting a contrast in performance between the new industries and the traditional sectors.
