Atlas Lion from Morocco Joins Paris Zoo, Sparking Hope for Endangered Species Breeding

The management of the Paris Zoological Park expects the birth of lion cubs in the first half of 2021 after Volcan, an Atlas lion, was transported from Morocco to France.
After his arrival in France on November 13, Volcan, an 8-year-old Atlas lion weighing 215 kilos, was installed in a 2,500 square meter enclosure, with three females and another male, at the Paris Zoological Park, located in the Bois de Vincennes.
"We are in the process of forming a clan with females, a breeding male and, therefore, a possibility of reproduction. This was not the case in the previous composition of the lion group," says Pierre-Yves Bureau, director of the zoo, to BFM Paris. "We hope to have lion cubs starting in the first half of 2021."
Pending the reopening of this park housing 2,800 animals, Volcan is adapting to his new environment.
