Arab Lawyers Launch Campaign to Block Trump's Nobel Peace Prize Nomination Over Gaza Stance

Moroccan lawyers, supported by colleagues from other Arab countries, have initiated a movement to block the nomination of Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize due to "his support for the genocide in Gaza".

Composed of 23 Arab lawyers, including eight Moroccans, five Lebanese, three Jordanians, two Egyptians, one Iraqi, one Kuwaiti, one Algerian, one Libyan and one Bahraini, the movement called the "Arab Legal Committee for the Prosecution of Zionist War Criminals" has addressed an open letter to the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Amnesty International in London, the International Federation for Human Rights in France, the United Nations Committee against Torture, as well as three special rapporteurs on occupied Palestine, extrajudicial executions and the right to food.

In this document dated August 10, 2025, the Committee firmly rejects the nomination of Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, considering that the award of this prize to the American president would be "a major disgrace" and would amount to "rewarding his political and military support for the Israeli occupation, his complicity in the genocide in Gaza and the continuous violations against Palestinian civilians, including women and children".

In its letter, the Committee accuses President Trump of being the direct accomplice of crimes against the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, for having "provided international cover for the operations of extermination, blockade and famine suffered by the population for nearly two years". The signatories recall that the war in Gaza has resulted in the death of tens of thousands of civilians, mainly women and children, the forced displacement of more than two million Palestinians and the destruction of infrastructure.

The Arab lawyers also point out that Trump has not reversed his position, despite international protests or the decisions of the International Court of Justice or the International Criminal Court that have condemned these atrocities. For these reasons, the Committee calls on the relevant international organizations to "urgently launch a global campaign to stop Trump’s race towards a recognition he does not deserve, by preventing him from tarnishing the prestige of the prize with his record, and from trying to wash his tarnished image by the "atrocities of Netanyahu, whom he finances, arms and defends".
