Antwerp Hosts Interfaith Celebration as Ramadan, Easter, and Passover Coincide

People from different religious communities in Borgerhout (Antwerp) shared an Iftar (meal to break the Ramadan fast) around a one-kilometer long table on Sunday, at a time when Ramadan, Easter and Passover coincide.
Several activities were organized throughout the day for people from different religious communities. "The next time Ramadan, Easter and Passover will coincide will be in 33 years. So we organized different actions. Thus, about 300 children searched for a golden Easter egg, we made a three-meter long frying pan, organized a world market and set up a one-kilometer long table that can accommodate 3,000 people," said Zahra Eljadid of Voem vzw.
"The different religious communities live together every day, but it’s good to really have the opportunity to meet. Not just on the street, but also around a table," Frederike rejoices, hailing this peaceful coexistence and living together. On the culinary side, the cultural mix was also on the agenda. "Today, we prepared vegetable rice, a recipe proposed by a Syrian volunteer from our organization," adds Frederike, specifying that she cooked with people of different nationalities and with food products donated by supermarkets.
