EU and Morocco Pledge to Strengthen Trade Partnership, Restart Negotiations

Morocco and the European Union reiterated, on Friday, February 14, 2020 in Brussels, their commitment to work together for an even stronger partnership in the coming years. This was on the occasion of a meeting between the Minister of Industry, Trade, Green Economy and Digital, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, and the European Commissioner for Trade, Phil Hogan.
"We discussed ways to relaunch the negotiations between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco in trade and other areas. We agreed to move forward in this process," said Phil Hogan. The European Commissioner said he was satisfied with the level and quality of cooperation between the two parties. His wish, he said, is to see it further strengthened, in particular with the realization of a comprehensive and in-depth free trade agreement. He also said that he will visit the kingdom very soon, in order to deepen the EU-Morocco relationship.
"We have shared many ideas that will be as many subjects of work together for an even stronger partnership for the coming years, and we are very optimistic," said Moulay Hafid Elalamy. According to him, what is very interesting to note is Europe’s refusal to be closed in on itself and, on the contrary, to be completely open with a privileged and equitable partnership relationship with Morocco in economic and trade relations around the world.
