American ‘Amazing Race’ team gets lost in Marrakech’s souks
A race against the clock in the souks of Marrakech brought a few surprises for two American contestants on The Amazing Race. Between a forgotten carpet, a compass bought on Amazon and a clue written in Arabic, their Moroccan leg turned into an adventure.

Dalton runs through the souks of Marrakech, hurrying to reach his destination. One small problem: he has forgotten the carpet he was supposed to carry! His teammate Daisha can hardly believe it. The two Americans now recount the mishap with a smile. The scene, shown on the popular show The Amazing Race, was given particular prominence in the edit, they told the Calhoun Journal.
The episode, broadcast Wednesday 14 October on US network CBS, takes the contestants into the labyrinthine alleys of Marrakech’s medina. Daisha and Dalton, who are from Alabama, set off in next-to-last place, 18 minutes behind the leaders. Needless to say, every second counts.
The first challenge: find a shoe that exactly matches the model shown. Dalton completes the task, then takes on the challenge of carrying the famous carpet. To find his way through the souks, he pulls out a small compass bought on Amazon. An unexpected accessory in an international television competition.
A compass, wool and a clue they can’t read
The duo ultimately takes a longer route than expected. But the detour allows them to spot the location of their next puzzle. The contestants then have to dye three pieces of wool: one blue and two yellow. Daisha considers it a formality, describing the challenge as one of the easiest of the season.
The final obstacle is linguistic. The clue pointing to their final destination is written entirely in Arabic. The two Americans cannot decipher it. They turn to passersby for help, show them the document and follow their directions.
Despite their early delay and mishaps, Daisha and Dalton climb the rankings and avoid elimination. Cody and Jamie are not so lucky. This fourth episode of season 39, titled Deception and Sleight of Hand, is the second consecutive episode filmed in Morocco, following a desert leg that aired on 7 October.
