This Monday, January 25, France 2 aired the TV movie "Les sandales blanches", inspired by the story of the French mezzo-soprano Malika Bellaribi, played by Amel Bent. The Moroccan-born singer, to the surprise of viewers, perfectly embodied the role of a singer who, in the 1960s, had to pursue her dream, despite the prejudices and racism caused by the Algerian war.
On social networks, Internet users were completely won over by the performance of the singer. During and after the broadcast of the film, they expressed their appreciation, congratulating the actress who made her own the life of the "Diva of the suburbs". "Les Sandales Blanches" is the true story of Malika Bellaribi, a little girl born in the Algerian slum of Nanterre. At the age of five, her mother bought her a new pair of white sandals, so white that the little girl was so fascinated by them that she was accidentally hit by a truck. She will spend many years in the hospital undergoing repeated operations, in suffering and fighting for her survival, reports Télé 7 jours.
Far from her loved ones, the little Muslim girl will spend all these years in the care of the good Catholic sisters and nurses. She learns to go to mass, discovers music and singing. From then on, Malika will follow her dream and move mountains to become the one that everyone will one day call the "Diva of the suburbs". It is in this role that the 35-year-old singer has captivated the viewers, garnering testimonies that have touched her a lot. "Your feedback overwhelms me. There are the comments and there are the testimonies. I receive like a wave of emotion but above all, a wind of hope for tomorrow... I feel like this story tells me and also tells a lot of you, in our quest for freedom to be and to love. Thank you again for your words, thank you to Malika," wrote the coach of The Voice.
Before "Les Sandales Blanches", Amel Bent had already taken on the role of actress in 2011, in the TV movie "Affaires étrangères : Maroc". She also made an appearance in "Scènes de ménages or Soda". Her role in "Les Sandales Blanches" will certainly open many doors for her, judging by the comments on her performance. "A coach welcomed me into her acting classes, for four months, almost every day for five hours. I had to train in acting, to open up as well, in order to better embody characters," Amel Bent explained to Télé 7 Jours.
She admits to having also undergone training to "adopt the right postures of a lyrical singer". She was coached by Malika Bellaribi herself. "It is she who sings in the TV movie, so I had to follow her to perfection". Amel Bent had also wanted to pay a beautiful tribute to the opera singer on Instagram. "This film tells your story, that of a woman, a mother, an artist that I had the chance and the honor to embody. What I remember is your courage, your determination, your dignity and your resilience. You are a standing and courageous woman who has shaken up her own existence and has carved her path despite the obstacles of life. A true inspiration. To you, Malika," can be read as the caption of photos from the TV movie that attracted 3.08 million viewers, or 13.5% of the audience (placing France 2 on the 2nd step of the podium), specifies the same source.
