Alstom Secures Moroccan Railway Maintenance Contract for Electric Locomotives

The French group Alstom and the National Railway Office (ONCF) have just concluded a contract for the maintenance of the electric locomotives of the railways. This partnership is part of the green revolution of the kingdom in the railway transport sector.
This agreement confirms that the French group is winning the market for the maintenance of the new generation PRIMA M4 electric locomotives, reports Agence Ecofin, noting that this signature comes after the contract won three years ago by Alstom Maroc for the supply of 30 locomotives for nearly 1.5 billion dirhams, or 139.7 million euros.
Thus, since 2018, Morocco has received fifteen PRIMA M4 locomotives, ten of which have been put into commercial service for passenger and freight transport. These locomotives, with a maximum speed of 160 km/h, are improving the high-speed train offer Al Boraq, especially on the Casablanca-Fez and Casablanca-Marrakech routes. "We will continue our long-standing partnership with our client and in the country, in order to contribute to the development of the Moroccan railway infrastructure," said Nourddine Rhalmi, CEO of Alstom in Morocco.
It should be recalled that Alstom had already won the contract for the equipment of lines 3 and 4 of the Casablanca tramway, in addition to lines 1 and 2 which it had already equipped. This contract, covering 88 trainsets for the 2 lines under construction, is estimated at 2 billion dirhams.
