Algerian Rally in Paris Shifts Focus to Criticize Morocco and King Mohammed VI

In Paris, a demonstration of support for the unity of Algeria and its regime took on the appearance of an attack against Morocco and King Mohammed VI.

At the initiative of the "Franco-Algerian Unitary Collective", Algerians gathered on Sunday at the Place du Colonel Fabien in Paris on the occasion of the celebration of the signing of the Evian Accords on March 19, 1962, to denounce "the almost daily political and media offensive against Algeria and its people to destabilize them," but also to "refuse any foreign interference," the organizers said in a statement. However, this gathering in support of the unity of Algeria and its regime quickly turned into a demonstration against Morocco.

In addition to the Algerian flags and the traditional Algerian slogan "one, two, three, viva l’Algérie," chanted by the demonstrators, Polisario flags, protected by Algeria, were also waved during the demonstration. Images also show demonstrators holding or trampling on placards caricaturing King Mohammed VI. Anti-Moroccan slogans such as "Tell France that we are not Mrarkas" were also chanted. This has provoked reactions from Internet users. "This is what Algerians teach their children! Hatred of Morocco is instilled in them from a very young age! La hawla wala quwata ila billah," an Internet user indignantly posted on Twitter.
