An Algerian Islamist leader has been arrested by the security forces of his country because of his criticism of the Algerian regime and his support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara.
Ali Belhadj, Algerian Islamist leader and vice-president of the Islamic Salvation Front, is paying dearly for his remarks on the Moroccan Sahara. He was arrested and taken to an unknown destination while he was already under house arrest.

"How can the Algerian regime claim to support just causes when it oppresses its own people and violates their fundamental rights?" questioned Ali Belhadj in a video. According to him, "Algeria’s claims about the Moroccan Sahara issue are linked to the sand war that broke out at the time, when there was initially nothing at all called the Polisario."
For the Algerian Islamist leader, it is unacceptable that an unjustly treated person should embark on the creation of a state. "Algeria created the Polisario in Tindouf as a barrier to prevent Morocco from claiming its territory, which includes Tindouf," Belhadj insisted.
