Algerian Footballer Refuses to Wear Jersey with Morocco Map, Sparks Controversy

Yousri Bouzok, an Algerian player playing for Raja de Casablanca, refused to wear the jersey, emblazoned with the complete map of Morocco, during the match against AS FAR, counting for the first round of the African Champions League.

The Algerian expressed to the club’s management his wish not to participate in this match, indicate sources to Le360, estimating that the player has probably avoided wearing this jersey emblazoned with the full map of Morocco so as not to incur the wrath of the Algerian leaders.

Barring any changes, Raja will therefore be deprived of its star striker against AS FAR. A blow for the Greens, who are currently 10th in the Moroccan league standings. Since his arrival at the club from Paradou AC, Bouzok has been very decisive last season, finishing top scorer with 14 goals. A performance that allowed Raja to win their 13th league title.

Bouzok should face disciplinary sanctions for refusing to play this decisive match against AS FAR because of the jersey with the complete map of Morocco. But Raja risks losing one of its best players for the rest of the competition and the season, especially since the Algerian player will not accept to play any match, in the league or in the Champions League, with this jersey.

The case of Bouzok recalls that of USM Alger who had refused last year to play against RS Berkane in the first and second leg semi-finals of the CAF Cup because of the official jersey of the Moroccan club, emblazoned with a complete map of Morocco. The CAF had declared RS Berkane the winner and imposed a fine of $40,000 on the Algiers club. Seized of the case, the Court of Arbitration for Sport has not yet delivered its verdict.
