Algerian Author Yasmina Khadra Decries Rising Morocco-Algeria Tensions

The growing tensions between Morocco and Algeria, which has unilaterally severed its diplomatic relations with its neighbor, are causing dismay for the Algerian writer Yasmina Khadra.
"Unforgivable! I am disgusted by the tensions that are disrupting the future of our future generations, disgusted by the coarse insults that the two camps are addressing to each other on social networks and, sometimes, in the media. I am viscerally Maghrebian. I love the Maghreb," said Yasmina Khadra in an interview with Jeune Afrique as part of the promotion of his new novel: Almond Heart.
His wish is to see a united Greater Maghreb. "I believe in the Greater Maghreb because it is the ramp for the definitive emancipation of our countries. Pending the calming of Libya, we have managed to touch the scepter capable of guaranteeing us true sovereignty: our strong Arab-Berber identity," added the Algerian writer.
He continued: "Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco are the same people. We are a fallow Eldorado. We are rich in our lands and rich in our geniuses. We have everything to count happily on the Mediterranean basin and to encourage the whole of Africa to take its destiny in hand." But the problem is the predators. "Of course, the predators will spare no effort to prevent us from realizing our great projects, but it is up to us to put each one back in its place and to move forward," concluded the prolific writer.
