Algeria Denies Seeking Arab League Support in Spain Crisis, Blames Morocco for Misinformation

Algeria denies having sought the support of the Arab League in its crisis with Spain, accusing Morocco of being behind these "allegations".
"Certain websites on social networks have reported information woven by the propaganda laboratories of the Makhzen claiming an alleged failure of Algeria to garner the necessary support for the holding of an extraordinary meeting of the Arab League to adopt a resolution of solidarity with it," the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement cited by TSA.
The Algerian ministry accuses Morocco of having provoked these "false information devoid of any foundation and in total contradiction with the values of Algerian diplomacy which carries out its missions with full transparency and sovereignty." It recalls that Algeria is in a "political" crisis with Spain, which has decided to support the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara, in violation of "its obligations" and international law.

For this reason, Algeria, "sure of the correctness of its position and the political and sovereign decisions it has taken in this context, is not in need of positions of support from brotherly or friendly countries or international organizations," the ministry concluded.
The crisis between the two countries opened on March 18, after the announcement of Spain’s change of position on the Sahara. In response, Algeria recalled its ambassador to Madrid for consultations, then on Wednesday, June 8, suspended the treaty of friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation with Spain. A decision condemned by the European Commission, which called on Algeria "to reconsider this decision".
